Laser Tattoo Removal for Men and Women

What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

Tattoos are inks inserted into the skin at a depth of about 1.5mm. Because a fairly inexact amount of ink is used the removal will vary according to the type and amount of ink used. For instance titanium base black ink is very difficult to remove and may require 20 treatments or more. For the more routine inks up to 10 treatments should suffice apart from green ink that my take up to 20 sessions. Amateur tattoos using “Indian ink” usually disappear within 5 sessions.

The cost of removal is based on the number of laser pulses used.

What happens during the tattoo removal?

The Q- switched Affinity laser has two coloured wavelengths, a green beam that will be absorbed by red ink and an infra red beam that will be absorbed by all colours except red ink.
The laser has two effects:

By splitting the ink into smaller molecules, the white cells can ingest the ink and remove it via the kidneys. Initally, after the first couple of treatments a scab may form but no aftercare treatment is required apart from keeping the skin dry with surgical spirit.

The frequency of treatments depends on the type of ink and the body’s ability to remove it and is generally between 2 and 3 months.

Affinity laser

For tattoo removal we use the Cynosure Affinity QS Laser. It is a high-powered, Q-switched, frequency doubled Nd-YAG/KTP laser that enables us to optimise the wavelength for all tattoo colours.

The laser can also be used to treat pigmented lesions such as age spots or freckles
